Brittany Bell
Women's Basketball
Brittany Bell, a senior guard on the Allegheny women’s basketball team, was also named the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Player of the Week.

 

Bell shot 57 percent from the floor and 52 percent from behind the arc, averaging 15 points in a 2-1 week for the Gators. She knocked in 11 triples on the week, including five against Wittenberg for a team-high 17 points. Bell also added 13 and 15 points in the wins over Hiram and Earlham, respectively.

 

On the season, she ranks second on the team with 9.8 points per game. Bell is second in the NCAC in three-point field-goal percentage (.385) and is fourth in three-pointer per game (2.24).

Lauren Butler
Women's Track and Field
Allegheny women's track and field thrower Lauren Butler was honored by the North Coast Athletic Conference as its Women's Field Athlete of the Week.

Butler, a sophomore, won the shot put event at Mount Union's Jim Wuske Invitational. Her winning attempt traveled 11.84 meters (38 feet, 10 1/2 inches).

Saturday’s North Coast Athletic Conference battle of third-place teams Allegheny and Wooster is the 33rd meeting in a series that dates back to 1905. The Gators hold a slight 18-14 lead in the series, but the Fighting Scots posted a 35-21 victory at home last year. Four of the last six meetings have been won by the home team.

Defense wins games. Junior safety Sid Facaros proved just that on Saturday, scoring the game-winning touchdown at the 12:40 mark of the fourth quarter on a 16-yard interception return while Andy Schleihauf recorded a game-high 15 tackles to lead Allegheny past Kenyon, 21-18.

Allegheny travels to Gambier, Ohio this weekend to take on Kenyon for the 27th time since the series began back in 1911. The Gators have won three straight against the Lords, including a 27-22 victory last year. The last Kenyon win was a 34-27 victory in 2005.

T. J. Salopek threw for a career-high 364 yards and three touchdowns, while Terry Hartford caught five passes for a career-best 185 yards to lead Allegheny to a 35-13 victory over Denison in North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) football action on Saturday night under the lights.

Allegheny and Denison are squaring off for the 24th time since the all-time series began in 1984. The Gators hold a 19-4 lead in the series, but the Big Red snapped a 19-game losing streak to Allegheny with a 13-10 victory last year. The Gators have shut out Denison four times, including the most recent in 2007 when Allegheny posted a 14-0 victory at Frank B. Fuhrer Field.
