MEADVILLE, Pa. – Caitlin Solan posted a team-high 11 kills and Sarah Sckena had 20 digs to lead Allegheny past Earlham 3-0 in North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) volleyball action on Saturday.

Playing their second game in two days, the Gators defeated the Quakers (3-19, 1-7 NCAC) in straight sets 25-19, 25-15 and 25-22.  Jordan Leopold recorded eight kills and Caileigh Hughes dished out 26 assists.

Allegheny and Earlham went point-for-point to start the first set. The Quakers took a quick 13-11 lead, but two attack errors by Earlham and an ace by Solan put the Gators up for good at 15-13. Allegheny built its lead to 21-16 and remained ahead for the 25-19 win.

The second set was similar to the first with the Quakers taking a slight lead and then the Gators going on a 9-1 run to take over. Laura Gaudreau served four straight points, while Solan and Caitlin Rothman each getting a kill to stretch the lead to 22-13 and eventually winning by 10 points (25-15).

Earlham kept it interesting in the third set to make the match come down to the final points. Down 17-9, Aleta Cox served through seven points, getting two aces to knot the game at 17-all. It was a sea-saw battle down the stretch with Allegheny taking advantage of three straight errors by the Quakers and ending on a kill by Gaudreau for a 25-22 victory.
