The Allegheny Advantage

Athletes of the Week
Beth Muller
Women's Track and Field
Beth Muller fell one win short of her second straight sprint trifecta, but still won the 55- and 200-yard dashes, to lead the Allegheny women's indoor track and field team to third place out of eight teams at the North Coast Athletic Conference Championships at Denison. She was named Sprinter/Hurdler of the Year for the second straight season.

Muller repeated as the 55 champ with a time of 7.51 seconds and then successfully defended her title in the 200 (:26.37).

As the defending champ in the 400, Muller was beat out by Marissa Clardy of Oberlin. Muller finished the race in 1:00.08 while Clardy came in at :59.39.
Tony Dipre
Men's Track and Field
Allegheny's Tony Dipre set a meet record and posted an NCAA automatic-qualifying time while winning the mile at the North Coast Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships. He was also a member of the winning Distance Medley Relay team for the Gators, who placed third among nine teams at Denison.

Dipre, who was named the NCAC Distance Runner of the Year, claimed his individual win with a time of 4:10.84 and held off Denison's Makorobondo Salukombo (4:12.23). The previous meet record was set in 2009 by the Gators' Jeramie Parker (4:13.89). The Blue and Gold has now won three straight indoor miles at NCACs.

Mike Vlah, Alex Gorski and Chris Marker joined Dipre on the DMR squad, which clocked in at 10:35.79.

The Allegheny men's cross country team was unanimously rated the top squad in the North Coast Athletic Conference preseason poll and has maintained that record for the entire season. When the latest pre-NCAC Championship vote results were released, the Gators were once again unanimous favorites to claim their sixth consecutive conference title.

Allegheny, which is also ranked first in the Mideast Region, will enter the NCAC Championship meet with the No. 6 rating in NCAA Division III.

In their three-race season, the Gators have been led by Chris Marker, who placed third at Calvin's Knight Invitational, 65th at Lehigh's Paul Short Run and then won the Inter-Regional Rumble at Oberlin. He, Jeramie Parker, Zac Ross and Tony Dipre have scored in all three events. Jake Zimmerman has scored twice and Ryan Hanson has contributed once.

Parker was the runner-up to Marker at Oberlin while Dipre took fifth during the team's second-place Inter-Regional showing. At Calvin, Parker was seventh and Ross placed ninth, helping the Gators claim the team championship.

The NCAC Championship meet will be held Saturday at Ohio Wesleyan. The last time Allegheny did not place first, Kenyon won the 2003 title while the Gators placed second.
