Beth  Muller
Women's Track and Field
Beth Muller fell one win short of her second straight sprint trifecta, but still won the 55- and 200-yard dashes, to lead the Allegheny women's indoor track and field team to third place out of eight teams at the North Coast Athletic Conference Championships at Denison. She was named Sprinter/Hurdler of the Year for the second straight season.

Muller repeated as the 55 champ with a time of 7.51 seconds and then successfully defended her title in the 200 (:26.37).

As the defending champ in the 400, Muller was beat out by Marissa Clardy of Oberlin. Muller finished the race in 1:00.08 while Clardy came in at :59.39.
Tony Dipre
Men's Track and Field
Allegheny's Tony Dipre set a meet record and posted an NCAA automatic-qualifying time while winning the mile at the North Coast Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships. He was also a member of the winning Distance Medley Relay team for the Gators, who placed third among nine teams at Denison.

Dipre, who was named the NCAC Distance Runner of the Year, claimed his individual win with a time of 4:10.84 and held off Denison's Makorobondo Salukombo (4:12.23). The previous meet record was set in 2009 by the Gators' Jeramie Parker (4:13.89). The Blue and Gold has now won three straight indoor miles at NCACs.

Mike Vlah, Alex Gorski and Chris Marker joined Dipre on the DMR squad, which clocked in at 10:35.79.

Grove City defeats Gators

MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Grove City men’s swimming and diving team won eight events, including the last three out of four to defeat Allegheny 135-101 in non-conference dual-meet action on Saturday afternoon at Mellon Pool.

 

Alex Mathews was a double winner and Kyle Grubbs swept the one-meter and three-meter diving competition for the Wolverines, who handed the Gators their first loss of the season.

 

Allegheny opened the meet winning the 400 medley relay with a team of Mirno Pasquali, Josh Sesek, Brandon Intrieri and Matt Gauthier. The foursome posted a time of 3:49.02, shaving off 12 seconds off their time from the NCAC relays last weekend.

 

Mathews won the 1000 freestyle (10:19.16) and Allegheny’s Brandon Staley came in second, touching in 10:43.48. Kristoffer Wigley swam in third place with a time of 10:49.25.

 

Pasquali earned the Gators’ first individual winner in the 200 freestyle. Pasquali was a second ahead Nate Nielsen to collect nine points with a time of 1:47.75.  In the fourth event of the day, Intrieri was .05 seconds behind the leader to come in second (22.42). Sesek and Christian Steinwarz went 2-and-3 in the 200 IM. Sesek finished in 2:03.15 and Steinwarz came in 2:05.30 to edge fourth place Josh Kim (2:05.69).

 

Intriieri won the 100 freestyle (48.45) and Pasquali followed with first place in the 200 backstroke (1:57.82) to be the only swimmer to make it under the two-minute mark.

 

Sesek became the third Allegheny swimmer to take first in an event, clocking in at 2:15.59 in the 200 breaststroke.

 

Zeben Ashton led the Gator divers, earning a score of 177.07 in the one-meter and 171.67 in the three-meter for second in both events. Patrick Juber, a converted diver just this season, tallied a score of 166.27 in his first chance at the diving in the one-meter event. .

 

Allegheny returns to action on Saturday at Westminster. Meet time is 1 p.m.
