The Allegheny Advantage

Athletes of the Week
Tony Dipre
Men's Track and Field
Allegheny's Tony Dipre set a meet record and posted an NCAA automatic-qualifying time while winning the mile at the North Coast Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships. He was also a member of the winning Distance Medley Relay team for the Gators, who placed third among nine teams at Denison.

Dipre, who was named the NCAC Distance Runner of the Year, claimed his individual win with a time of 4:10.84 and held off Denison's Makorobondo Salukombo (4:12.23). The previous meet record was set in 2009 by the Gators' Jeramie Parker (4:13.89). The Blue and Gold has now won three straight indoor miles at NCACs.

Mike Vlah, Alex Gorski and Chris Marker joined Dipre on the DMR squad, which clocked in at 10:35.79.
Beth Muller
Women's Track and Field
Beth Muller fell one win short of her second straight sprint trifecta, but still won the 55- and 200-yard dashes, to lead the Allegheny women's indoor track and field team to third place out of eight teams at the North Coast Athletic Conference Championships at Denison. She was named Sprinter/Hurdler of the Year for the second straight season.

Muller repeated as the 55 champ with a time of 7.51 seconds and then successfully defended her title in the 200 (:26.37).

As the defending champ in the 400, Muller was beat out by Marissa Clardy of Oberlin. Muller finished the race in 1:00.08 while Clardy came in at :59.39.

GAMBIER, Ohio -- The Allegheny women's soccer team suffered a 2-0 loss to Kenyon in its North Coast Athletic Conference regular season finale on Saturday. The defeat drops the Gators to third place in the NCAC and may knock them as low as fourth, depending on the outcome of a Saturday night game between Ohio Wesleyan and Earlham.

Caddie Durrett struck first for the Ladies, converting a goal in the seventh minute with an assist from Shanna Keown. Amanda Maxfield scored Kenyon's second goal during the 66th minute.

Allegheny's Abby Silvester nearly cut the score in half during the 75th, but her shot clanged off the crossbar of Kenyon's net.

Winning goalkeeper Kat Powers stopped seven shots for the Ladies while Allegheny goalie Emily Karr made six saves.

Denison will be the No. 1 seed of the NCAC Tournament after finishing with a 6-0-1 conference record (19 points). Allegheny is tied with Wittenberg -- both with 14 points and identical 4-2-2 records -- but Wittenberg will receive an edge during tournament seeding based on its two-goal differential in conference play compared to the Gators' one-goal differential.

With its win, Kenyon jumped to 4-3-1 (13 points). Ohio Wesleyan, with a 4-3-0 slate, has 12 points heading into its match against Earlham.

An OWU win will propel the Battling Bishops to second place and bump Wittenberg and Allegheny to third and fourth place, respectively. The Gators would then visit Denison in an NCAC semifinal on Wednesday. An OWU tie or loss would set up an Allegheny/Wittenberg semifinal.
