MEADVILLE, Pa. – Kait Riesmeyer won two individual events and swam a leg on the winning 400 medley relay to lead Grove City over Allegheny 136-104 in women’s swimming and diving dual-meet action on Saturday.
Riesmeyer won the 200 butterfly (2:12.68) and then took first in the 500 freestyle (5:21.12) to help the Wolverines open their season with a win.
The Gators (1-1) captured the first three out of four events of the day. Grove City swept the 400 medley relay, before Christine Smith paced the 1000 freestyle for Allegheny with a time of 11:15.19, followed by Lauren Karl in second (11:20.88). Megan Knox then won the 200 freestyle in 2:00.09 and Ariana Lyons led a 1-2 finish in the 50 freestyle. Lyons touched in 25.16 and Ashley Whitehead was so close behind in 25.19.
Lyons ended the day with two individual wins, marking her second in the 100 freestyle (54.90). This race mirrored the 50 free with Whitehead trailing in second (55.10).
Allegheny took the final event in the 400 freestyle relay. Knox, Tara Stein, Whitehead and Lyons made up the team that clocked in at 3:42.42.
In diving, Shelby Penn earned eight points for the Gators with her second place finish in the one-meter (152.62) and three-meter (152.70).
Allegheny returns to action on Saturday at Westminster. Meet time is 1 p.m.
