The Allegheny Advantage

Athletes of the Week
Tony Dipre
Men's Track and Field
Allegheny's Tony Dipre set a meet record and posted an NCAA automatic-qualifying time while winning the mile at the North Coast Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships. He was also a member of the winning Distance Medley Relay team for the Gators, who placed third among nine teams at Denison.

Dipre, who was named the NCAC Distance Runner of the Year, claimed his individual win with a time of 4:10.84 and held off Denison's Makorobondo Salukombo (4:12.23). The previous meet record was set in 2009 by the Gators' Jeramie Parker (4:13.89). The Blue and Gold has now won three straight indoor miles at NCACs.

Mike Vlah, Alex Gorski and Chris Marker joined Dipre on the DMR squad, which clocked in at 10:35.79.
Beth Muller
Women's Track and Field
Beth Muller fell one win short of her second straight sprint trifecta, but still won the 55- and 200-yard dashes, to lead the Allegheny women's indoor track and field team to third place out of eight teams at the North Coast Athletic Conference Championships at Denison. She was named Sprinter/Hurdler of the Year for the second straight season.

Muller repeated as the 55 champ with a time of 7.51 seconds and then successfully defended her title in the 200 (:26.37).

As the defending champ in the 400, Muller was beat out by Marissa Clardy of Oberlin. Muller finished the race in 1:00.08 while Clardy came in at :59.39.

Next "Gold Rush" game is...
Mitchell vs. DiChristina
First-ever swim-off during the meet

The Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC) and the Allegheny Student Government (ASG) have designated the men’s and women’s swimming and diving meet against Oberlin on Friday night as the next “Gold Rush” game for the winter season.

“Gold Rush” is a new initiative on campus to generate fan participation and involvement in collegiate athletic events. Fans are encouraged to wear gold t-shirts in support of the Gators. The meet begins at 6 p.m. and admission is free.

This will not be just any ordinary swimming and diving meet.  At the first diving break there will be a Swim-Off, a first-of-its kind challenge between two Allegheny colleagues. Director of Athletics and Recreation Betsy Mitchell and Dean of Students Joe DiChristina will battle each other in the 25-yard freestyle.

Mitchell, an Olympic Gold Medalist and former world record holder, returns to the water to relive her glory days.  DiChristina is up against an International and University of Texas Athletic Hall of Famer. He has no swimming background, but works out daily in the Mellon Pool and will rely on his junior varsity high school baseball experience to pull out the victory.
