The Allegheny Advantage

Athletes of the Week
Tony Dipre
Men's Track and Field
Allegheny's Tony Dipre set a meet record and posted an NCAA automatic-qualifying time while winning the mile at the North Coast Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships. He was also a member of the winning Distance Medley Relay team for the Gators, who placed third among nine teams at Denison.

Dipre, who was named the NCAC Distance Runner of the Year, claimed his individual win with a time of 4:10.84 and held off Denison's Makorobondo Salukombo (4:12.23). The previous meet record was set in 2009 by the Gators' Jeramie Parker (4:13.89). The Blue and Gold has now won three straight indoor miles at NCACs.

Mike Vlah, Alex Gorski and Chris Marker joined Dipre on the DMR squad, which clocked in at 10:35.79.
Beth Muller
Women's Track and Field
Beth Muller fell one win short of her second straight sprint trifecta, but still won the 55- and 200-yard dashes, to lead the Allegheny women's indoor track and field team to third place out of eight teams at the North Coast Athletic Conference Championships at Denison. She was named Sprinter/Hurdler of the Year for the second straight season.

Muller repeated as the 55 champ with a time of 7.51 seconds and then successfully defended her title in the 200 (:26.37).

As the defending champ in the 400, Muller was beat out by Marissa Clardy of Oberlin. Muller finished the race in 1:00.08 while Clardy came in at :59.39.

Junior men's cross country runner Chris Marker was named the All-Mideast Region Athlete of the Year while Allegheny head coach Bill Ross received Mideast Region Coach of the Year honors as announced by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

Marker became Allegheny’s first-ever individual regional champion, leading the Gators to the Mideast Regional Championship. Marker finished the eight-kilometer race in 24:54.3. Marker has been the top Allegheny runner in all but one meet this season, finishing as the runner-up at the North Coast Athletic Conference Championship to teammate Jeramie Parker as Allegheny won its sixth straight NCAC title.

Meanwhile, Ross earned his ninth Regional Coach of the Year honor in 14 years with the Gators.

Allegheny, which is No. 1 in the Mideast, was also mentioned in the final NCAA Division III overall rankings ahead of the National meet.  The Gators are rated fifth in the nation, behind North Central (280), Cortland (270), Wisconsin-La Crosse (260) and Geneseo (257). Trailing the Gators in the poll are Williams (241), New York University (237), Carnegie Mellon (220), Haverford (196) and Washington-St. Louis (195).

The team will wrap up its season on Saturday at the NCAA Division III Championships, which will be hosted by Baldwin-Wallace at Highland Park Golf Course.
