FREDONIA, N.Y. – Ariana Lyons and the 200 free relay team set two pool en route to Allegheny’s 155-145 win over Fredonia State in non-conference swimming and diving action on Saturday afternoon.
The Gators collected their third straight dual-meet win, coming down to the final relay where the women came in first and third for 13 points to edge the Blue Devils. The team of Megan Knox, Ashley Whitehead, Tara Stein and Lyons set the pool record in 1:41.47.
Lyons broke the other pool record in the 50 free, touching in 24.75. Whitehead was second in that event with a time of 25.15. The 100 freestyle panned out the same way. Lyones earned first place with a time of 54.71, followed by Whitehead (55.67).
Allegheny won five more events throughout the meet. Christine Smith paced the Gators in the 1650 with a time of 18:46.43 for first and Lauren Karl was on her heels in second with an 18:47.76 finish.
The 2-3-4 finish in the 100 backstroke helped Allegheny stay on top early, before Molly Durot won the 200 butterfly in 2:16.22 and Alycia Conway placed second (2:21.77) .
Knox not only swam in the 200 free relay, but she won the 200 backstroke and 500 freestyle. Knox touched in 2:16.99 for the backstroke and then led a 1-2-3 finish in the 500 free. Her time of 5:23.62 led the way and Smith was second with 5:25.34. Durot took third place with 5:29.18.
It was a close race in the 200 breaststroke. Stephanie Andrasek of Fredonia won in 2:37.36 and Rachelle Barrett took second with a time of 2:38.13 and Joanna Wieckowska was a close third (2:39.09).
Wieckowska battled back to win the 200 IM in 2:21.93 and Barrett was second for Allegheny in 2:24.06.
