MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Allegheny volleyball team will travel to Wittenberg this weekend to battle for its sixth North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) championship in Springfield, Ohio.
The Gators (16-17, 10-6 NCAC), who earned the tournament’s fourth seed, will face host and defending champion Wittenberg in the first semifinal match on Friday at 5:30 p.m. The second semifinal will feature No. 3 Wooster vs. No. 2 Hiram, beginning at 8 p.m. The championship match is slated for Saturday at 2 p.m.
The tournament winner receives the NCAC’s automatic bid into the NCAA tournament.
Allegheny is making its second straight NCAC tournament appearance. Friday’s match against Wittenberg is a rematch of from last year’s opening semifinal contest. The Tigers swept that match and this fall’s regular season series against the Gators in straight sets.
Allegheny is led by current NCAC Player of the Week, Caitlin Solan. She paces the team with 326 kills and is third with 380 digs. Solan also has 60 blocks and 22 aces this season.
