DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – John Hoch and Kyle Jones combined for 42 points and six three pointers to lead Carroll to a second-half comeback and a 80-67 win over Allegheny on the final day of the Land of Magic Classic in Daytona Beach, Florida on Wednesday.

Hock tallied 24 points, including 14 in the second half and Jones, who posted three points in the first, finished with 18 points on 4-for-9 shooting from behind the arc to give the Pioneers (6-3) their second win of the tournament. Carroll made half of their shots in the second half after going 14-for-38 in the first half for 36.8 percent from the floor to collect the victory.

George Raftis picked up his second double-double of the season with 15 points and 11 boards, while Craig Devinney matched the team high of 15 points. Charlie Jaicks was also in double figures with 14 points and five assists.

Defense was the name of the game for the Gators (4-5) in the first half, but Carroll used the same tactic after the break to take its first lead at 14:23 and used a 15-1 run late in the second to secure the win.

With the scored tied at 10-all to start, Allegheny went on a 10-1 spurt to take a nine-point lead at the 11:18 mark. Jaicks had back-to-back three-point plays, one unconventional and the next from behind the arc before Devinney nailed a jumper for the lead.

The Pioneers got within two at 27-25 and had a chance to take the lead with Hoch at the line. Although he only got one free-throw to fall, Carroll took advantage of a Gator turnover on the next possession to make it 28-27.

Devinney responded with a three-pointer and then gets a layup and Eric Williams added three points for the Pioneers at 32-31. Jaicks drained a triple, before Donte Briscoe blocked Hoch and made a jumper for a 39-35 halftime lead.

Carroll slowly started to chip away at the Allegheny to being the second half, making it 45-44 thanks to five points from Hoch. After a Gator timeout, Jones landed two consecutive triples to put the Pioneers ahead for good at 50-45. Allegheny’s own Jones, Peter that is, returned the favor with a three-pointer while Hoch followed with a layup.

Jaicks second three-point play put the Gators within one, 52-51, but three straight triples by Carroll started the late run that gave the Pioneers a commanding 75-57 lead.

Down by 18 with 3:47 left to play, Allegheny cut the deficit to eight points with under a minute remaning. Carroll went 5-for-6 from the line to make sure the Gators didn’t get any closer.

Allegheny shot 51.6 percent in the first half and just 31 percent in the second. Briscoe came off the bench for eight points, five rebounds and two blocks.

The Gators return to action on Tuesday at Kenyon. Game time is 7 p.m.
