The Allegheny Advantage

Athletes of the Week
Tony Dipre
Men's Track and Field
Allegheny's Tony Dipre set a meet record and posted an NCAA automatic-qualifying time while winning the mile at the North Coast Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships. He was also a member of the winning Distance Medley Relay team for the Gators, who placed third among nine teams at Denison.

Dipre, who was named the NCAC Distance Runner of the Year, claimed his individual win with a time of 4:10.84 and held off Denison's Makorobondo Salukombo (4:12.23). The previous meet record was set in 2009 by the Gators' Jeramie Parker (4:13.89). The Blue and Gold has now won three straight indoor miles at NCACs.

Mike Vlah, Alex Gorski and Chris Marker joined Dipre on the DMR squad, which clocked in at 10:35.79.
Beth Muller
Women's Track and Field
Beth Muller fell one win short of her second straight sprint trifecta, but still won the 55- and 200-yard dashes, to lead the Allegheny women's indoor track and field team to third place out of eight teams at the North Coast Athletic Conference Championships at Denison. She was named Sprinter/Hurdler of the Year for the second straight season.

Muller repeated as the 55 champ with a time of 7.51 seconds and then successfully defended her title in the 200 (:26.37).

As the defending champ in the 400, Muller was beat out by Marissa Clardy of Oberlin. Muller finished the race in 1:00.08 while Clardy came in at :59.39.

Paterson paces Gators over Wittenberg
Boxscore

MEADVILLE, Pa. - Jensen Paterson hit the 50-point mark for the season with six goals and one assist to lead Allegheny over Wittenberg 17-9 in North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) women's lacrosse action on Saturday.

Paterson scored all six goals in just over 30 minutes, bringing her total to a team-best 40 goals and helping the Gators (5-6, 2-2 NCAC) post their fifth straight win over the Tigers (5-3, 1-1 NCAC). Kiah Voyer-Colbath netted a season-high five goals, while Rachel Coons made six saves for the win.

Wittenberg's Jordan Beauchamp and Maggie Amorello each tallied a hat trick in the loss.

In a close first half where the score was tied five times in the opening 20 minutes, Allegheny used a 7-0 run over the next 11 minutes of play to break a 5-all tie and take a commanding lead at 12-5. Christina Zanic put the Gators ahead for good with a free-position goal at the 9:07 mark.

Paterson, who netted four straight goals after Voyer-Colbath got Allegheny on the board, recorded her fifth on an unassisted tally to make it 7-5 and force Wittenberg to call a timeout.

After the break, Voyer-Colbath sandwiched two goals between a Meg Grossman goal for a 10-5 lead at halftime. The first goal of the second half belonged to Paterson on an 8-meter shot, before Grossman caused a Tiger turnover at midfield and took the ball all the way to the cage for a 12-5 lead.

Beauchamp stopped the bleeding at the 24:06 mark with a free-position goal. Colbath struck again, this time getting two goals between Zanic's second of the day off a pass from Paterson at 15-6.

Wittenberg did not let the Gators take a double-digit lead, scoring three goals in the final 18:32.

Zanic finished with a hat trick and Paterson added eight draw controls to her stat line.

Allegheny's defense only allowed 19 shots on goal, while the offense fired off 36 on the day. The Gators went 4-for-7 from the 8-meter mark and 13-for-15 on clear attempts.

Allegheny returns to action on Monday at Norte Dame (Ohio), marking the first of three straight road contests for the Gators. Game time is 7 p.m.
