MEADVILLE, Pa. - The Allegheny softball team split a North Coast Athletic Conference doubleheader with Wittenberg, dropping the first game 2-1 in 10 innings and winning the second contest 3-2 on Saturday at the Robertson Complex.

The Gators (18-14, 6-4) scored twice during the nightcap's sixth inning to push past the Tigers (12-18, 4-4). With Allegheny down 2-1, Marci Potuzko led off with a double and eventually scored the tying run on a two-out error by Wittenberg.

Allison Piper, who reached second on the aforementioned error, scored when Rachel Ryan was hit by a pitch. Maggie Bodenlos walked and Stephanie Baer had singled to load the bases.

Bodenlos gave Allegheny its first lead of the game in the opening inning when she led off with a home run.

Wittenberg came back with runs in the fifth and sixth. During the fifth, Maranda Moore led off with a double, moved to third on a sacrifice and scored on a wild pitch to tie the score at 1-all. In the sixth, Julie Ziegler plated Anna Kvartunas with an RBI single.

Amanda Downey earned the win for Allegheny. In seven innings, she allowed seven hits and two earned runs. Of the 21 outs recorded, Downey had 17 groundouts and one strikeout.

Bodenlos and Potuzko went 2-for-3 with one run each.

For Wittenberg, Kvartunas was 2-for-3. Losing pitcher Brooke Boswell gave up seven hits and one earned run while recording three strikeouts and five walks.

After taking an early 1-0 lead in the opener, the Gators were unable to push any more runs across. Baer ripped a one-out single in the first inning and stole second base. After Ryan walked, she and Baer stole second and third, respectively. Bessie Artino grounded into a fielder's choice which resulted in Baer's out at home and then Katie Wills followed with an infield single to drive in Ryan with Allegheny's only tally.

The Tigers tied the game in the fourth inning when Jessica Snyder singled in Jade Chivington. In the 10th, Moore started out on second base and eventually scored on an Allegheny error.

Stacey Robertshaw tossed all 10 innings for the Gators. She allowed seven hits and one earned run. Offensively, Baer and Piper went 2-for-4.

For the Tigers, Rachael Hatcher earned the win. She went the distance, allowing eight hits and one earned run. At the plate, Snyder was 2-for-4 and Ziegler went 2-for-5.
