Game 2 BoxscoreMEADVILLE, Pa. - Maggie Bodenlos went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBIs and a home run to help Allegheny split a North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) doubleheader with Kenyon on Saturday.
Rachel Ryan had one of the five extra base hits for the Gators (21-15, 9-5 NCAC), recording a double and then scoring the game-winning run in the bottom of the fifth off Artino's second two-base hit of the day for a 4-3 game-two victory.
Kenyon broke a 2-all tie with six runs in the top of the fifth behind Brittany Vanegas' grand slam for an 8-2 game one victory. Vanegas also pitched in the opener, giving up two runs on five hits for her fifth win in the circle.
In game two, Bodenlos cranked out her seventh home run in similar fashion to her last one in the second game against Wittenberg on Apr. 18. The leadoff hitter crushed the ball 210 feet on her first at bat to make it a 1-all game. Bodenlos then smacked a double in the third to plate Allison Piper, before scoring on a Bessie Artino double for a 3-1 lead in the third.
In the top of the fifth, Vanegas recorded the third home run of the day and drove in Emily Ruf in the process to make it 3-all. At the next chance, Ryan and Artino worked together to get Allegheny back on top for good.
Amanda Downey was the winning hurler in game two. She pitched all seven innings and was charged all three runs.
In game one, Kelly Adams gave the Ladies a 2-0 lead in the third with a solo long ball. The Gators tied it up in the bottom of the fourth. With one out, Katie Wills singled, advanced two bases to third on Marci Potuzko's hit. An error by the catcher trying to throw Marci out on her stolen base allowed Wills to score.
After Liz Burr walked, Sara Doan drove in Potuzko with an RBI single to right center.
The Ladies scored six runs on five hits in the fifth. Sara Sullivan started off the inning with a single and Elizabeth Refsnyder got on by fielder's choice. Adams walked to load the bases and Emily Ruf brought in pinch runner Ciara Sanchez, while Vanegas came to the plate and cleared the bases with a grand slam.
The Gators were unable to rally back, going three and out in the final three innings.
