BoxscoreWOOSTER, Ohio - Hillary Darragh scored four of her game-high five goals in the first half to help Wooster build the lead and never look back for a 17-11 North Coast Athletic Conference women's lacrosse victory over Allegheny on Wednesday.
Carley Carey and Taryn Higgs added four goals apiece to lead the Fighting Scots (6-3, 3-0 NCAC) to their sixth conference win, snapping the Gators (4-5, 1-2 NCAC) two game winning streak.
Jensen Paterson tallied five points on the day, recording four goals and one assist. Meg Grossman was the other multiple goal scorer for Allegheny, netting a pair.
Carey found the back of the net twice in the opening 1:12 for a quick 2-0 lead. Higgins and Dine followed Carey with their first goals for a 4-0 cushion, but Allegheny answered with three of its own to cut the deficit to one. Christina Zanic put the Gators on the board with an unassisted tally at the 25:41 mark, before Abby Silvester scored on a free position shot and Paterson followed to make it 4-3.
Darragh and Higgins each scored two goals over a four-minute span to be the driving force behind the offensive surge that helped Wooster take control of the game.
Darragh added two more to her list, netting two goals in just 31 seconds to give the Fight Scots a 10-5 lead at halftime.
Wooster scored the six out of seven goals to start the second half to push the lead to 16-6. The final seven minutes of the game belonged to the Gators. Kiah Voyer-Colbath sparked a four-goal run with a goal at the seven-minute mark. Paterson and Grossman tallied their final goals, while Jackie Sikora was able to sneak a goal with 10 seconds on the clock.
Wooster held a 36-22 shot advantage, including a 20-9 edge in the first half.
Allegheny returns to action tomorrow against Fredonia, beginning at 4:30 p.m.
