MEADVILLE, Pa. -- George Raftis finished with 21 points and nine rebounds while Charlie Jaicks and Henry Heeter put in 16 and 14 points, respectively, to lead the Allegheny men's basketball team over Oberlin, 85-66, on Wednesday at the David V. Wise Center.
After taking a 33-29 lead into halftime, the Gators outscored the Yeomen, 27-10, to start the second half and opened up a 60-39 advantage with 13:49 left in the first half. During the stretch, Jaicks buried three 3-pointers and Heeter and Raftis contributed seven points apiece.
Oberlin held its last lead with 9:03 left in the opening half when Andrew Fox made two free throws to put the visitors up 16-14. Allegheny then went on an 11-2 run -- led by Seth Eisner who buried a trey and knocked down two freebies -- and took a 25-18 lead with 6:35 remaining in the first.
Fox led a quartet of Oberlin scorers in double figures. He had a double-double, finishing with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Johnathan Nelson added 14 points, Marcus Johnson put in 13 and James Tompsett had 10.
During the course of the night, Raftis moved from 15th to 12th on Allegheny's all-time points list. With 1,198 points, he passed Bill Bishop (1,178 in 1951-55), Matt Magnusen (1,192 in 2000-04) and Ryan Meerstein (1,197 in 1999-03). He is also now second all-time with rebounds after passing Frank Barba (676 in 1973-77).
The Gators will be in action next on Saturday when they visit Wittenberg. Tip-off is at 3 p.m.
