GAMBIER, Ohio -- Devone McLeod led a quintet of Gator scorers in double figures, finishing with a season-high 17 points, to lead the Allegheny men's basketball team over Kenyon, 89-57, in North Coast Athletic Conference action. With the win, the Gators (5-5, 2-0) remained unbeaten in conference play.
McLeod, who shot 8 of 10 from the field, also had five assists, three steals and one block. George Raftis added 12 points and six rebounds while Charlie Jaicks contributed 11 points and six assists. Donte Briscoe and Henry Heeter put in 10 points apiece. Briscoe also had nine rebounds and four steals for Allegheny, which compiled 26 assists.
The Gators went on an early 10-point run to take command. Craig Devinney and Jaicks buried three-pointers during the stretch while Heeter made two free throws and McLeod sank a layup to put Allegheny up 14-3.
After building a 49-22 halftime advantage, the visitors went on an 8-point run -- increasing their lead to 66-27 -- during the second half, led by McLeod's four points and a trey by Jaicks. On four occasions, Allegheny held 40-point leads.
For Kenyon (3-8, 0-3), Dave Knapke led the way with 16 points and nine rebounds. J.T. Knight added 11 points and seven rebounds.
Raftis and Devinney continued their climbs up the all-time career lists for rebounds and three-pointers, respectively.
Raftis, now with 621 career rebounds, moved into sixth all-time by passing Ben Schulz (1994-98), who had 617. Brian Stadnik (1983-87) and Dave Contardi (1977-81) are now in Raftis's sights. Fifth-ranked Stadnik grabbed 627 boards while the fourth-most rebounder, Contardi, compiled 635 during his Gator career.
Devinney is now tied for eighth on the all-time three-pointer list. With three treys, he pulled even with Nick Catanzarite (1999-03) at 122. Devinney is within grasp of Jake Delsandro (1996-00), who is seventh with 123, and Rich Seidel (1985-88), who is sixth with 126.
The Gators will be in action next on Friday when they visit Earlham. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m.
