Dipre Qualifies For Mile Championship Race

GREENCASTLE, Ind. -- Allegheny junior Tony Dipre placed first in his heat -- and seventh overall -- during mile-run preliminaries at the National Collegiate Athletic Association Indoor Track & Field Division III Championships, hosted by DePauw
Winning the second heat with a time of 4:20.58, which was well off his season-best (4:10.84), Dipre was content with doing just enough to qualify for Saturday's final.
Each of the finishers in the second heat ran slower times than those runners in the first heat. The fast heat had times that spanned from 4:12.62, the top time run by New York University's Matt Turlip, through 4:16.72.
Dipre, who placed eighth in the mile during last year's indoor season, needs to finish in the Top 8 again to claim his second straight All-America honor.
