GRANVILLE, Ohio -- For the second straight year, Chris Marker won the 5,000-meter run at the North Coast Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships and the Allegheny men sit in second place heading into the final session on Saturday at Denison.
Marker crossed the finish line in 15:08.37, extending the Gators' winning streak to seven in the NCAC Indoor 5K. He held off second-place runner Ben Schild of Oberlin (15:12.90). Ryan Sullivan of Allegheny ran a fourth-place time (15:19.20).
In the triple jump, Donte Briscoe stretched 46 feet, 0 3/4 inches to place second for the Gators. The distance was the second-furthest triple jump in Allegheny history behind the Joe McMahon's school record (47-2 1/2). He finished behind Ohio Wesleyan's David Burke (46-10 3/4).
Two Gators runners -- Andrew Mahone and Matt Brush -- qualified for the 800 final. Mahone will be seeded third after running a preliminary time of 1:56.16. Brush will be ninth (1:59.61).
Allegheny has claimed 28 points heading into the final day. It trails Ohio Wesleyan (36). Wabash is in third (23), followed by Oberlin (21), Earlham (15), Wooster (13), Wittenberg (12), Kenyon (5) and Denison (3).
