For the 14th consecutive year, the Allegheny men's and women's cross country teams were recognized as an All-Academic Team by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. That totals 28 awards since head coach Bill Ross took over the helm of both programs.
For a team to be considered for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team award, they must have competed and compiled a team score at an NCAA Regional Meet. The team must also have a minimum 3.10 team cumulative grade-point average.
The Gator men claimed their award with a 3.23 GPA during a season in which they finished third in at the NCAA Division III Championships. The women's team made the cut with a 3.10.
Wisconsin-Eau Claire, the women's D-III champ, was named Cross Country Scholar Team of the Year while Whitworth recorded the highest overall team GPA.
A total of 153 Division III women’s programs, including all ten of the top ten teams and 23 of the top 25 teams at this year’s NCAA Championships, received the All-Academic honors.
On the men's side, Williams was the Men's Cross Country Scholar Team of the Year for the second straight season. It placed second overall at the NCAA meet. Heidelberg College had the highest overall team GPA (3.59).
A record total of 110 Division III men’s programs received the All-Academic honors this year. In addition, six of the top ten and an incredible 20 of the top 25 teams in the championship field at the NCAA Championships were All-Academic teams.
