FREDONIA, N.Y. – Amy Simon recorded a game-high eight points with six goals and two assists to lead Fredonia State over Allegheny 19-8 in non-conference women’s lacrosse action on Tuesday evening.
The loss overshadowed Jensen Paterson becoming the all-time leading scorer in program history for the Gators (4-7), only needing one for the record but scoring a team-high four goals for 129 career goals and surpassing Ashley Hughes (125 – 2005-08).
The Blue Devils (7-4) held a 33-15 shot advantage, scoring 11 goals in the first half and eight more in the second for the victory.
Morgan McNamara scored both of her goals in the first half, putting Fredonia on the board in the sixth minute off an assist from Simon. Just 43 seconds later, Paterson broke the school record for most goals off a feed from Kiah Voyer-Colbath to make it 1-all.
Simon and Laura Culhane scored 23 seconds apart from each other for a 3-1 advantage and continued to push the lead out with three consecutive goals, including two on free-position shots.
Grossman added two goals and Paterson completed a hat trick in the first half, but Fredonia netted four goals in a three-minute span to take a commanding 11-4 lead.
In the eight goals scored in the second half, the Blue Devils finished the game how they ended the first half by scoring four straight goals for their largest leading margin and the victory.
Rachel Coons made six saves in the loss, while Gillian Green tallied the final two stops in just 10 minutes of work. Meg Grossman made three her lucky number, scoring three goals, grabbing three draw controls and three ground balls. She recorded her 100th career goal with 14:02 left in the game, her final goal of the night.
The Gators return to action on Thursday at Waynesburg. Game time is 7 p.m.
