OBERLIN, Ohio – Junior Jensen Paterson became the all-time points leader in Allegheny women’s lacrosse history with three goals and two assists for five points, leading the Gators past North Central 16-12 in non-conference action on Saturday.
Paterson only needed three points to surpass Ashley Hughes who held the record with 179 points (125 g, 54 a; 2005-08). She now has 141 goals and 41 assists in her career.
Meg Grossman scored four goals to help Allegheny (8-7) post their fourth straight win and second in as many days. Rachael Coons made a season high of 10 saves in the first half and only allowed five goals.
North Central’s Jacquelin Morgan tallied four goals and Amy Frazzini netted a hat trick in the loss. Elise Manzie managed to make six saves in the net.
The Gators never trailed and used a 6-0 spurt from the end of the first half into the second to pull away for the victory.
Grossman scored three out of the four goals to begin the game for a 4-2 lead. She put Allegheny on the board with a free-position shot at the 3:01 mark and Paterson followed with an eight-meter goal exactly 40 seconds later for a 2-0 edge. Grossman then sandwiched two goals between one from Danielle Fiala to keep the two-goal lead.
North Central pulled within one, but Abby Silvester netted back-to-back goals to make it 6-3 and Kiah Voyer-Colbath finished two goals in the final three minutes of the first half for a 9-4 lead.
Three more goals to start the second half, one by Paterson in the first 30 seconds and two by Caitlin Fearon scored two quick goals for a commanding 12-5 advantage.
North Central matched Allegheny’s seven goals in the second half, including the last three of the game to make it a four-goal difference in the end.
Freshman Gillian Green played the entire second stanza and made two saves for the Gators. Paterson also finished with a game-high 10 draw controls.
Allegheny returns to action on Tuesday against St. Vincent. Game time is 4 p.m.
