AKRON, Ohio – The Allegheny softball team dropped game one by a 4-3 decision in nine innings and then edged Kenyon 1-0 in the nightcap to split a North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) doubleheader on Thursday night at the Firestone Stadium in Akron, Ohio.
Nicole Rodi scored on a sacrifice fly by Sara Doan in the top of the fourth for the only run of the game, while Brittany Rung threw a four-hit shutout to lead the Gators (12-19, 5-7 NCAC) past the Ladies (16-18, 5-7 NCAC) in game two.
Rodi singled to shortstop and went to second on a sacrifice bunt by Fort. Katie Wills reached on an error to send Rodi to third. She scored on Doan’s fly out to centerfield for the game-winning run. Rung struck out four and allowed four hits for her team-leading sixth victory.
In game one, Samantha Sims was set on second base and two outs in the bottom of the ninth. Brianna LaChusa singled to center, scoring Sims. The throw from Doan was on target at the plate, but too late and Sims slid head first to score the winning run.

The lead quickly became 3-0 in the top of the third. Bodenlos was a key component in inning, hitting her second double of the game and then scoring on Fort’s home run with two outs up.
The Ladies came right back with two runs on four hits in the bottom of the frame to make it 3-2. Kenyon tagged on another run in the fifth to knot the game and eventually force extra innings. Allegheny only recorded two hits in the final five innings.
Rung started game one, pitched five innings and gave up three runs but Amanda Downey came in the sixth and gave up the last run in the ninth for the loss.
The Gators return to action on Saturday in the home finale against Ohio Wesleyan. The doubleheader starts at 1 p.m.
