MEADVILLE, Pa. – Courtney Schrock scored all of her game-high four goals in the decisive first half to lead Washington & Jefferson over Allegheny 11-7 in non-conference lacrosse action on Wednesday night.
The Presidents (7-3) outscored the Gators (3-6) 8-4 in the first half and added three more in the second half to pick up the road victory. Brittney Oaked contributed two goals, while five other W&J players tallied one goal apiece.
Elissa Gordon scored a pair of goals for Allegheny and Becca O’Shurak recorded her third game with double-digit saves, making 10 stops. Jensen Paterson, Christina Zanic and Kiah Voyer-Colbath each posted one goal and one assist.
It took Schrock two minutes, 53 seconds to give W&J a two goal lead. The Gators responded less than a minute later thanks to Zanic finding Grodon to make it 2-1 and then Voyer-Colbath evening the score with a solo run at the 20:55 mark.
The Presidents pulled out to a 5-2 lead behind three straight goals, before Zanic found the back of the net off Voyer-Colbath’s free-position shot she passed off. Zanic’s goal puts her one away from reaching 100 goals for her career.
Schrock struck again, but Abby Silvester won the ensuing draw control and took the ball straight down the field to score 10 seconds later to make it 6-4.
The next four goals belonged to the Presidents for a 10-4 lead midway through the second half. With 7:12 left to play, Gordon was awarded a free-position shot on a wide-open cage due to a foul on goalie Julie McLellan and Paterson followed with another good eight-meter goal to cut the lead by four.
There was a three-shot difference between the teams with W&J holding a 25-22 edge. McLellan finished with six saves.
Allegheny returns to action on Saturday against Kenyon. Game time is 1 p.m.
