MEADVILLE, Pa. – Rachel Seibel pitched 10 1/3 innings, striking out seven and only giving up one run for two wins on the mound to lead Ohio Wesleyan past Allegheny 8-0 and 6-1 in a North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) softball doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.
The Battling Bishops (23-13, 10-4 NCAC) put a damper on the Gators (12-21, 5-9 NCAC) season and home finale with the sweep. Senior Maggie Bodenlos had three hits on the day, including two doubles and an RBI.
In game one, Kaylie Titus singled to right field and advanced to more bases on an error, before scoring on an RBI single by Brooke Nethers with two outs for a 1-0 lead in the second.
Bodenlos doubled and advanced to third on Rodi’s ground out, but was stranded after Fort hit a fly out to center field in the bottom of the third.
The Battling Bishops had a seven-run sixth inning, highlighted by Rita Cook’s hit a three-run homer to pull ahead 8-0.
Katie Wills was only Gator with multiple hits in game one, going 2-for-3.
Amanda Barker and Seibel only surrendered three hits combined in game two. Barker started the first three innings and struck out three, while Seibel finished the nightcap with one run on one hit.
Ohio Wesleyan tripled up the runs in the top of the second and third innings for a 6-0 lead. Amanda Sanders singled with bases loaded and knocked in all three runs in the second while Krystie Skaziak had two RBIs in the third with a single to right field.
Allegheny tagged on a run in the fifth. Facing two outs, by Breanna Appleby walked and stole second. Bodenlos cranked out a double to right center for the RBI to make it 6-1.
