MEADVILLE, Pa. - The Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association listed Allegheny College on its list of academic award winners for the 2010 season. Teams with a cumulative grade-point average above 3.0 elicited Academic Squad honors, while Merit Squad status was awarded to the nation’s top three classroom achievers. In total, 64 schools across all NCAA divisions reached the academic target.

“Allegheny lacrosse has always valued academics as a top priority and it’s a critical part of the educational message we deliver to our teams,” beamed head coach Paula Habel. “The recognition of the IWLCA means so much to both me and our program. We are proud of our successes of our lacrosse family on the field, and even more proud of their accomplishments in the classroom.”

In addition, the IWLCA honored 184 student-athletes from 81 different institutions for inclusion in the 2010 Academic Honor Roll. Representing the Gators on the Academic Honor Roll is junior Katie Conway, who is majoring in Neuroscience with a minor in History, and senior Christina Zanic, a Psychology mojor who is also minoring in English.

Allegheny closed the 2009 campaign as the No. 3 seed in the North Coast Athletic Conference, while securing its fifth postseason appearance in the last seven seasons.
