CLEVELAND, Ohio – The NCAC Volleyball coaches have chosen Allegheny College to make a 22nd appearance in the NCAC playoffs as they were voted to finish fourth in the preseason poll released Wednesday.
Wittenberg University enters the year as the overwhelming favorite to repeat as conference champions receiving all eight first-place votes. After a perfect 2009 NCAC campaign, Wittenberg returns 12 letterwinners and will begin the 2010 season ranked No. 11 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) preseason poll.
Allegheny was selected fourth totaling 34 points in the poll, one point more than fifth-place selection Oberlin College (33). The Gators return four letterwinners, including All-NCAC Honorable Mention selection Jordan Leopold, to a squad that finished the 2009 season with a 10-6 conference record and a second consecutive playoff run before falling to eventual tournament champion Wittenberg.
Founded in 1983, the North Coast Athletic Conference is made up of nine academically selective colleges and universities. DePauw University will join the NCAC beginning with the 2011-12 academic year.
