MEADVILLE, Pa. - Seniors D.J. Egan and Brian Terpin found the back of the net in the first half, while freshman goalkeeper John Lichina notched his first career shutout as Allegheny defeated Mount Union Wednesday at Frank B. Fuhrer.
Egan got the Gators on the board in the 14th minute after he finished a header in the box assisted by freshman Frankie LaManna. Terpin added the insurance goal in the 39th when he blasted a free kick past the Jonathon Critell, the goalkeeper for Mount Union.
Lichina and the rest of the Gator defense remained stout throughout the game and allowed only 10 shots for the entire game. The freshman keeper showed poise well beyond his collegiate playing experience stopping all five shots put on goal en route to his first shutout as a Gator.
The Gators hit the road this weekend to participate in the Frostburg State Tournament in Frostburg, Md., and will take on Eastern Mennonite University in the opener of the tournament Friday at 5 pm.
