Gators Dealt First Loss

MEADVILLE, Pa
. – No. 4 nationally ranked Carnegie Mellon netted an early first half goal in the 15th minute to jump ahead of the Gators and added two insurance goals to secure a 3-0 win and hand the Gators their first loss of the year.
The first goal for the Tartans came off of a corner kick that innitially went long to the far post, but was headed back to the near post by Alex Abedian and was put away by John Crawshaw with a header of his own.
The goal surrendered by the Gators was the first goal allowed all season long. Freshman goalkeeper John Lichina posted three shutouts prior to Wednesday’s game, and had a streak of 285 minutes of a clean sheet. Lichina recorded a season-high eight saves.
With the game 1-0, the Gators created several scoring opportunities, but were unable to finish. The best chance came when Pete Subasic ripped a shot from 12 yards out which was deflected just wide of the goal.
In the 30th minute, Joey Paladino finished a thru ball played by Max Tassano for the Tartans’ second goal. Brad Edelman scored off of a header in the 55th minute.
CMU controlled possession for most of the first half outshooting Allegheny nine to seven in the first half and totaled 18 for the game. The Gators finished with 12 shots.
The Gators return to Frank B. Fuhrer Field Saturday, September 11, 2010 as they take on Heidelberg University beginning at 5 pm.
